Providing technical support to civil engineers
Overview
Approved for delivery on the 04/10/2017, the civil engineering technician, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 36 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
Your role as an Apprentice Civil Engineering Technician will be to provide technical assistance to engineering and construction workers on projects that include construction, structural integrity, geotechnics, materials, tunnelling, marine and coastal engineering, water, waste management, flood management, transportation and power.
You will support with the design, development, construction, operation and maintenance of the built environment and infrastructure, using your knowledge of engineering techniques and the principles mathematical science. You will also ensure all work and activities on-site adhere to the relevant industry legislation and regulations and follows safe working practices by conducting risk and hazard assessments.
As an apprentice, you play a key role in assisting the design process by producing design models, technical drawings, reports and site surveys using the appropriate tools. You will utilise software programmes to gather data and solve a range of technical problems, and make significant contributions to the project’s general operational functions, such as work schedules, budgets and deadlines.
You will need to maintain effective communication with a variety of industry workers, as you present proposals and updates on the progress being made, upholding a professional attitude at all times as you work both independently and as part of a wider team.
