Overview

The clock maker was approved for delivery on 03/02/2020. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 24 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

As an apprentice Clock Maker, you will be working in retail, manufacturing or industrial sectors as you use your skills to provide repair and servicing work on various components found on a range of clocks, alongside working towards being able to manufacture a complete clock, from the design stages through to sales.

You will develop your knowledge of the construction, operational principles and maintenance of tools and equipment required to perform repairs, and know how to use a range of hand tools and machinery efficiently and safely. You will learn how to identify hazards within the workplace, and the importance of working under health and safety legislation such as the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH).

You will learn how to provide detailed assessments of any maintenance work required and carry out work that restores a clock to its original condition and meets your customer’s expectations. You will complete tasks such as re-busing and re-facing anchor recoil pallets, cleaning silver dials and tying different types of weigh and fusee lines, and use written and verbal forms of communication to explain the complex nature of your work in an easy to understand way.
