Overview

Approved for delivery on the 03/07/2019, the commercial catering equipment technician, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 30 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship will provide you with the skills to install, commission, maintain and repair commercial catering equipment, such as combination ovens, fryers, grills, cooking ranges, dishwashers and microwave ovens.

You will work in a variety of environments and sites that prepare food in kitchens, including restaurants, hotels, cafes and schools, and conduct servicing, fault-finding and repairs of equipment in line with manufacturers specifications, following health and safety procedures. You will learn to accurately record any work undertaken, and work to the highest of standards to ensure there is no unnecessary returning to the site.

The apprenticeship will also teach you how to install new equipment following technical diagrams and specifications, and use the correct hand tools, air quality meters, and electrical multimeters to test it is working efficiently, whilst wearing the appropriate PPE. You will learn how to complete the required documentation and records such as timesheets and safety notices, and how to install connecting pipework for gas and drainage, conduct electrical and water isolation work, or identify issues with catering and ancillary equipment.
