Overview

The community sport and health officer was approved for delivery on 09/03/2018. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 16 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

The role of a Community Sport and Health Officer is to drive behavioural change in the community by providing a range of sporting and physical activities and events for a range of people that help improve the health of the nation.

You will learn to understand how to plan engaging activities and how to build an effective programme that initiates meaningful change, adapting your approach to connect with various members of society. You will understand what the causes health inequality, and how physical activity can help to prevent and manage anti-social behaviour or criminal activity.

Tasks may include attending meetings, creating and leading sessions and projects, liaising with other community organisations, designing marketing material, using social media and reporting your feedback to other professionals. You will also be able to administer basic first aid to participants in a sporting environment and understand various health & safety and safeguarding procedures to protect children and vulnerable adults.

Completing the apprentice will allow you to move into senior roles within the Sector – leading teams of people or specialising with specific populations, particular sports or programmes.
