Overview

The compressed air and vacuum technician was approved for delivery on 13/05/2020. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 36 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

As a Compressed air and vacuum technician, you will provide a range of installation, repairing and maintenance services to a range of customers and organisations with compressed air and vacuum systems. This may include compressor or vacuum pumps, air receivers, filtration, dryers, condensate drains and treatment, and controller and pipework systems.

You may work in a dedicated workshop or offer a mobile service carrying out your work on-site, as you communicate with their team colleagues, managers, sub-contractors and customers daily. You will conduct a series of checks and tests to ascertain what work needs performing and make recommendations to customers and provide estimates of the potential costs involved.

Your duties will include complete servicing, fault diagnosis and repairs to ensure equipment is operating and controlled at its optimum efficiency. Industries that use compressed air or vacuum systems include dentists, hospitals, garages, plant hire companies, power stations and electronics manufacturers. You will be responsible for following health, safety and environmental standards, regulations and laws, including pressure systems safety (PSSR) and fluorinated greenhouse gas (F Gas).

Apprentices who complete this standard have the opportunity to apply for professional recognition with the Society of Operations Engineers and the British Engineering Council (BEC).
