Overview
The construction equipment maintenance mechanic was approved for delivery on 07/08/2020. This Intermediate apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 2, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 24 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
As an Apprentice Construction Equipment Maintenance Mechanic, you will work predominantly in construction-related environments including site-based, mobile, workshops, plant and tool hire settings servicing and maintaining specialist equipment and machinery used in a variety of construction projects.
You will work with tools and machinery such as mobile cranes, excavators, disc cutters, crushers, demolition plant, road-rail equipment, water pumps, telescopic handlers, ensuring they are working correctly, safely and efficiently, reducing the chance of delays in the process due to faulty equipment. You will undertake visual checks, dismantle and inspect them for faults in both a dedicated workshop and on-site where necessary, and configure them according to the manufacturer’s specification.
You will learn to carry out your work in compliance with industry legislation and health and safety requirements and undertake routine maintenance of equipment whilst wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and under the supervision of a senior colleague or manager. You will be able to source and extract relevant information and produce reports using the data collected to propose any recommended actions to be taken.
