Overview

Approved for delivery on the 26/01/2018, the creative venue technician, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 24 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Working under the direction of a production arts team, you will use your knowledge of the live arts industry to offer technical support for a performances development, rehearsal, and presentation for an audience and for camera.

You will learn the fundamentals of lighting, audio, video and building services related to the performance arts and apply them in providing support for a venues production setup. You will learn how to set up, rig, operate, maintain and repair technical equipment used in creative venues to facilitate the rehearsal and presentation of live performances, and understand the health and safety standards relating to them.

During the apprenticeship, you will develop your planning skills to prepare risk assessments and method statements, and produce post-performance and reports and detailed handover notes in both verbal and written forms. You will also undertake stage crafts such as scenic construction, stage machinery, props, and scene changes using carpentry and metalworking skills and techniques, and how to select and use the appropriate tools and equipment for the work to be undertaken.
