Cyber Intrusion Analyst

Detect network security breaches and direct a relevant response through the incident response team 

Overview

This Higher cyber intrusion analyst apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 4, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 23/03/2016 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

The priority of a cyber intrusion analyst is to detect breaches in network security, for escalation to incident response. You will use a range of automated tools to monitor networks and build a detailed understanding and how to interpret alerts generated by these tools. This could include integrating and correlating information from a variety of sources to determine whether the alert represents a security breach.

Upon the detection of a security breach, you will communicate with the incident response team providing notification of the breach and evidence to support the determination that a breach has occurred.

Intrusion analysts will develop strong technical knowledge and understanding of IT network features and excel in logical and creative thinking. You will need to be able to work independently to manage your responsibilities effectively, and feel comfortable taking your own initiative.

Intrusion analysts typically work as part of a larger team and will interact with external stakeholders and customers to provide advice regarding the vulnerability and threat level. You will use your excellent communicative skills to keep your team members up to date daily.
