Overview

This Higher cyber security technologist apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 4, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 10/05/2016 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

The purpose of this apprenticeship standard is to apply an understanding of cyber threats, vulnerabilities and risks to protect an organisation. Cyber security technologists may be given the opportunity to specialise in the technical or risk management side of cyber security:

For those focused on the technical side, typical duties include security design and architecture, security testing and response analysis. Cyber security technologists focused on the risk analysis side will work on areas such as operations, vulnerabilities, governance and compliance.

Alongside gaining specialist knowledge and technical understanding, you will have the opportunity to develop a broader skillset. This includes organisational attributes to effectively manage your own responsibilities, professional communication skills, and creative thinking skills.

Whether focused on the technical or risk analysis side, all people in this profession will work to achieve effective security outcomes in compliance with legal and regulatory standards. A wide range of industries employ cyber security technologists, including those in the private sector as well as local and national authorities. Cyber security technologists are typically office-based where they will work with a team of colleagues; however, there are also remote or work-from-home opportunities available.
