Overview

What the course covers

DevOps is a field that brings together two historically disparate parts of IT; those who develop software and those who are then required to operate and support such software in the live environment. The purpose of this apprenticeship standard is to develop the skills that encapsulate both of these disciplines, requiring the apprentice to understand how to code functions, and when being used in the real world how to troubleshoot any issues that arise.

You will take responsibility for all aspects of the development and operations process, including the design, building, testing, implementation, maintenance and upkeep of software. Daily work will include collaboration and interaction with other members of the development team, and other colleagues both in the IT department and broader areas, including business and marketing.

Alongside building of technical and expert knowledge, you will develop a broader skillset. This includes learning how to communicate with other professionals, organise your time effectively to ensure all duties are carried out on time to a high standard and targets are met, and successfully work in a team where you are open to learning from others.
