What the course covers

The primary purpose of this apprenticeship standard is to provide apprentices with the experience and knowledge to interact directly with children to help their learning and development. You will support the planning and delivering of activities, including play opportunities and educational programmes. An Early Years practitioner will work as part of a team of professionals under the supervision of an Early Years Educator, teacher or other suitably qualified professional.

You will work to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements outlined by the government for learning, development and care of children under five years old in both indoor and outdoor environments. This involves interacting with children, parents, colleagues and wider professionals such as health visitors, social workers or speech and language therapists.

Early years practitioners find employment in a range of public and private settings; this includes day care, children’s centre, pre-schools, reception classes, playgroups and as childminders. You will be responsible for caring for the specific needs of each individual child, such as feeding, typically under the direction of a more senior member of the team.
