What the course covers

The primary role of an electrical or electronic technical support engineer is to support the manufacture of electrical products. This includes assisting with the product design, development and assembly involved in bringing a range of electronic concepts to life. Electrical or electronic technical support engineers typically work closely with other engineers, suppliers and managers to cover a broad range of support activities.

This apprenticeship standard is split into two phases of training: the foundation phase and the development phase. The foundation phase involves intensive off-the-job training focused around developing the apprentice’s core skills, knowledge and behaviours to ensure they can work effectively under supervision in a primarily simulated working environment. The development phase focuses on on-the-job vocational training, supported by education when necessary, to allow you to work independently of supervision.

It is essential to stay up-to-date with relevant legislation and strictly follow all health and safety regulations. You will qualify for initial registration as an Engineering Technician in partnership with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers with further development and register possible upon the successful development of appropriate competences.
