Overview
The engineering fitter was approved for delivery on 20/11/2018. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 42 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
Engineering fitters work in the manufacturing and processing sectors. The general purpose of this occupation to produce components or assemblies in full or part, using machines or equipment, to the required specifications. Fitters may focus on mechanical, electrical, pipefitting, control systems or instrumentation; Alternatively, fitters may operate across multiple disciplines.
To effectively produce or refurbish components, fitters will interpret specifications and plan their work; this includes ensuring they have the right tools, equipment and resources to complete the task to the required specification. Daily duties typically involve interacting with managers or supervisors, and depending on the size of the employer; you may work as part of a team of fitters or independently. Engineering fitters also interact with personnel in other professions, for example, installation and maintenance engineers, health and safety personnel and customers.
You will be responsible for your own workload, ensuring to meet all deadlines while following strict health, safety and environmental regulations.
Upon completion, this apprenticeship standard enables apprentices to apply for professional recognition with the Institution of Engineering and Technology at the level of an Engineering Technician.
