Overview

This Higher engineering manufacturing technician apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 4, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 05/11/2019 and typically takes 42 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

An Engineering manufacturing technician’s primary role is to provide specialist technical support for engineers, allowing businesses to develop, produce and test new products or processes. The development of these products should efficiently and effectively meet the customer specifications of quality and cost. Engineering manufacturing technicians work in both large and small organisations across a range of sectors; this includes automotive, aerospace, chemical processing, marine and defence industries.

Daily tasks will include collecting and analysing data from a range of sources, producing technical reports or specifications covering areas such as quality, reliability and costing and outlining other technical documentation that informs product design, manufacture or testing.

An engineering manufacturing technician will interact with their line manager or supervisor and may work with other engineers as part of a team. As well as liaising with internal colleagues, you may also be responsible for working directly with customers, external suppliers or with representatives from appropriate regulatory bodies. Your time will be spent between working in an office environment, in the manufacturing environment and visits to customers or suppliers when required.
