Engineering Operative

Approved for delivery on the 24/09/2018, the engineering operative, Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 12 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

The roles of an Engineering operative cover a range of specific skills that are transferable across the manufacturing and engineering industries. You may work independently or as part of a team to carry out a range of engineering operations. This could include servicing machines and equipment, dealing with breakdowns, restoring components and systems and operating a variety of machines.

Engineering operatives must comply with safety and environmental requirements. This could include identifying hazards, preparing the work area and equipment, obtaining or following the appropriate job documentation and work instructions and carrying out quality checks. You may work with minimum supervision either individually or as part of a team and will be responsible for the quality, accuracy and timely delivery of the work you undertake.

This apprenticeship standard will provide training in the core knowledge and skills in engineering operations. This includes learning personal responsibility, team working skills, problem-solving abilities and professional communication skills. It will also allow apprentices to specialise in a specific area.
