Overview

Approved for delivery on the 14/06/2019, the environmental practitioner (degree), Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 6, non-integrated degree upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 60 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

The broad purpose of this profession is to provide employers with high-quality professional expertise on environmental issues. This is primarily focused around providing a robust overview of critical issues and the relevant policies, regulations and legislation an organisation must consider when delivering a particular project.

This profession is found in a broad and growing number of industries, with businesses of all types looking to promote sustainable economic growth. Environmental practitioners find employment across many sectors including voluntary and charity organisations; public sector, including regulatory bodies, local and national authorities; educational institutions and research agencies; and private sector companies.

You will develop a high level of knowledge and understanding of complex environmental principles to ensure you can provide organisations with sound, relevant advice. You will interact with junior and senior members of your project team and typically work in an office-based environment. You will also spend time working on-site, where you may collect data or assess the environment. This could involve interacting with surveyors, construction site personnel, environmental protection officers and regulators.
