Overview
The fenestration fabricator was approved for delivery on 27/09/2019. This Intermediate apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 2, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 18 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
Fenestration refers to the design and construction of openings in a building, such as windows, doors, vents, wall panels, skylights, storefronts and curtain walls. You may work in the domestic market directly with homeowners, in the new-build market, or the commercial and public sector.
The broad purpose of this profession is to manufacture finished fenestration products such as conservatory roofing, glazed doors, roof lights, secondary glazing, shop fronts and windows. Fenestration fabricators typically specialise in a particular material such as aluminium, timber, steel or uPVC.
You will cut and assemble profiles together, and depending on the product may add glass units, or ancillary items such as handles, hinges and locks. You may also weatherproof the product, for example through fitting of seals, membranes and sealants. You will always work to a specification, in line with quality standards and health, safety and environmental considerations.
A Fenestration fabricator will be responsible for completing their own work, with minimal supervision, ensuring deadlines are met. You may work as part of a team, with responsibility for a specific aspect of the fabricator process to contribute to the production of the overall product.
