Overview

This Higher fire safety inspector apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 4, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 20/11/2019 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

The role of a Fire Safety Inspector is to assess the level of fire safety in built environments, and instigate improvements where necessary. The overall aim is to reduce the risk of fire in order to preserve life, minimise damage to the property and environment, and support economic growth. You will be responsible for providing advice, participating in consultations, the enforcement of legislation relating to fire safety, and supporting investigations and prosecutions.

The fire and rescue sector is a public sector service, and is formed of three closely linked components: prevention, protection and response; As a fire safety inspector, you will have a specialist role in the prevention part.

Daily work requires interacting effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including partner agencies and local regulatory services teams, to ensure an integrated approach to the management of fire risk. This could include attending internal and external meetings with stakeholders, such as Safety Advisory Groups, and investigating complaints regarding fire safety in commercial premises. Fire safety inspectors inspect premises and support businesses through advice on how to comply with relevant regulations.
