Overview
The food and drink engineer was approved for delivery on 10/05/2019. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 5, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 36 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
The role of a F Food and Drink Engineer is to maintain, manage and install a diverse range of specialist equipment and technology used in the manufacture of food and drink products. You will combine engineering competence with a sound understanding of the principles of food safety, science and technology, with a focus on maintaining and improving existing equipment.
You will be responsible for facing the unique challenges of the food and drink manufacturing sector, including product variability, legal and regulatory frameworks, environmental factors and customer or consumer expectations and standards.
Typical duties include coordinating site-based engineering activities; assist the site in achieving optimal operational efficiency at the lowest cost; designing and installing new process lines to meet emerging business needs; and identifying the underlying causes of equipment failure.
You will typically work as part of a team of engineers and will interact with other professionals such as those involved in manufacturing, production planning, and health, safety and quality. You will lead the efficient and effective development of systems, taking responsibility for the quality of your own work.
