Overview
Approved for delivery on the 25/08/2016, the food and drink process operator, Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
This apprenticeship standard will provide apprentices with the skills and knowledge to ensure food products, which millions of people consume every day, are produced to a high quality and are safe to consume. This includes drinks, cakes, biscuits, ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook food, sandwiches, wraps, fresh fruit and salads.
Process operators carry out production operations using a range of equipment and must understand the basics of fault-finding with the equipment they work with. You will learn how to handle food products safely and hygienically, and understand the importance of following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain quality and to ensure products meet customer requirements.
You will grasp an understanding of when it is appropriate to escalate technical issues to a specialist or more senior member of staff, such as the production line supervisor. Food and Drink Process Operators work alongside a team of other operators, and will often interact with people across a range of professions including engineers and product design specialists. For these reasons, it is important you confidently communicate well with others in a professional environment.
