Overview

Approved for delivery on the 18/02/2019, the funeral team member, Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 12 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Funeral team members provide essential support to the funeral director in the arrangement, management and delivery of funeral services. You will be primarily responsible for providing direct support to clients and customers, ensuring to make a positive difference to the customer at an emotional and challenging time in their life. The work of a funeral team member is rewarding and worthwhile, with delivering excellent customer service the top priority.

Alongside the development of essential core knowledge and skills, this apprenticeship standard allows for apprentices to specialise in one of two roles:

  • Funeral arranger: The role of a Funeral arranger is to support the funeral director by organising funerals and pre-payment plans, handling customer enquiries, sales and aftercare. This job role is primarily based around administration activities.
  • Funeral operative: A Funeral operative will play an active role in supporting the funeral director for the funeral service. You may be responsible for cleaning and driving a variety of vehicles, bringing the deceased into care, preparing and presenting the deceased and coffins, as well as supporting client visits to the morgue. As a Funeral operative, you may participate in an out-of-hours service.
