Overview
Approved for delivery on the 05/02/2016, the gas engineering operative, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
A Gas engineering operative is responsible for the safe installation, commission, decommission and the ongoing service and repair of gas appliances in either a domestic or non-domestic setting. Appliances include central heating boilers, unvented hot water storage, cookers, space heaters, meters, alternative fuel, and industrial pipework.
The roles of a Gas engineering operative are typically physical in nature, often involving lifting and moving heavy equipment, working at heights and in confined spaces. Compliance with up-to-date health, safety and environmental regulations is a top priority during all daily activities. You will directly interact with customers to explain how appliances work and provide energy efficiency advice, ensuring excellent customer service at all times. As this is a highly skilled profession, apprentices will develop a number of technical skills, including how to use relevant tools, equipment and machinery safely and appropriately.
To operate as a Gas engineer operative, all apprentices must register with the Gas Safe Register for at least four different appliances. Following successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will be eligible to apply for membership with the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers for professional registration at the level of an Engineering Technician.
