Overview
The gas network craftsperson was approved for delivery on 22/10/2015. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 48 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
The role of a Gas network craftsperson is to ensure the safe operation, control and maintenance of the gas network. Natural gas is a hazardous substance, so the work of a Gas network craftsperson is vital to avert significant loss or interruption to supplies. This could include responding to and managing gas emergencies to ensure potential safety issues are controlled and remediated without delay.
You will work as part of a larger team of professionals, which may include developers, designers, supervisors and managers. You may be required to communicate with the general public, agencies and emergency services on safety-related matters.
Apprentices will develop core knowledge and skills, including. Alongside the core requirements, apprentices will have the option to specialise in one of the following four options:
- Electrical and instrumentation craftsperson
- Pressure management craftsperson
- Network pipelines maintenance craftsperson
- Emergency response craftsperson
Following successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will be eligible to apply for membership with the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers for professional registration at the level of an Engineering Technician.
