Overview
Approved for delivery on the 27/04/2016, the general welder (arc processes), Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
Welding is the process of making high-strength joints between pieces of metal using high electrical energy. The welder will melt the metal and then fuse the pieces together to form a structurally sound weld. Welding is a highly skilled profession, and this apprenticeship standard will enable apprentices to develop the essential skills and technical abilities required to achieve a successful career as a welder.
Welders find employment across almost every sector but are experiencing the highest demand in the automotive, marine, transport, general fabrication, and construction industries. Depending on the type of business you work for, you may be responsible for producing components for cars, ships, rail vehicles, metallic containers, or steelwork for bridges and buildings.
Successful completion of this apprenticeship standard will provide apprentices with an excellent entry point for a career as a welder, with the potential to progress into several specialist occupations. This includes a career as a multi-positional welder, high integrity welder, welding instruction and teaching, welding inspection or managing and supervising welding operations.
