Gathering geographic data for use in the creation of maps, satellite navigation systems and global positioning systems.
Overview
This Advanced geospatial survey technician apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 3, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 27/02/2018 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
Geospatial survey technicians are responsible for gathering geographic data for use in the creation of maps, satellite navigation systems, global positioning systems (GPS), construction of infrastructure including roads, buildings, bridges, and offshore construction such as wind turbines and oil rigs. You will learn how to use a wide range of technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and electronic data capture tools, such as building information modelling.
The main duties and tasks of a geospatial survey technician include capturing geospatial information; recording appropriate geospatial measurements to the required specification; working alongside other professionals; and performing calculations and analysis using geospatial data. This is a highly skilled profession, so apprentices will develop technical skills, such as how to competently take geospatial measurements, with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience applying these skills.
Following successful completion, this apprenticeship standard will provide apprentices with the knowledge, skills and competencies to become registered associate members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors.
