Hair Professional

Providing hair cutting, styling and grooming services.

Overview

Approved for delivery on the 21/12/2016, the hair professional, Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 24 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship standard covers two distinctly different job occupations: Hairdresser and Barber. Hairdressers and barbers work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to curly and coiled hair. You will learn how to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices. You will work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

All apprentices will learn core skills and knowledge, including developing strong customer service skills and an understanding of how to operate hygienically and safely in your place of work. You will then have the option to specialise as a hairdresser or barber, dependent on your career preference and the type of business where you are employed.

Apprentices that decide to go down the hairdressing route will learn skills necessary to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create a variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men.

For apprentices that train as a barber, you will develop skills to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using barbering techniques, style and finish hair, cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services for men.
