Overview

This Degree healthcare science practitioner (degree) apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 6, integrated degree qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 31/03/2017 and typically takes 36 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

Healthcare science practitioners use expert knowledge and skills in applied scientific techniques to deliver tests, investigations and procedures, including specialist therapeutic interventions, on samples, patients and equipment. You will be responsible for the analysis of a wide range of diagnostic tests that contribute to the clinical assessment of patients for disease or infection, the monitoring of health improvement and the effectiveness of treatments.

This apprenticeship standard will enable apprentices to gain the knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and behaviours to perform complex clinical, technical procedures. Apprentices will develop an understanding of the importance of working to a high degree of safety, accuracy and precision. You will have strong organisational and leadership skills and feel comfortable managing or supervising junior members of staff.

Completion of the apprenticeship standard in the Life Sciences Division confers eligibility to register with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist. Apprentices in the Physical Sciences Division are eligible to join the accredited Register of Clinical Technologists held by the Institute of Physics and Engineering Medicine.
