Overview

Approved for delivery on the 19/05/2016, the healthcare support worker, Intermediate apprenticeship standard provides a level 2, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 12 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Healthcare support workers are responsible for providing high-quality care for patients in a range of healthcare settings, including hospitals, care homes and hospices. You will carry out well-defined routine clinical duties, including assessing a patient’s conditions by checking blood pressure, temperature or weight, and monitoring their overall progress, comfort and wellbeing.

This apprenticeship standard will equip apprentices with the skills to perform both clinical and non-clinical duties of healthcare support working. Non-clinical duties could include help patients to eat, drink, wash, dress or go to the toilet, keeping up-to-date, accurate records, making beds, tidying up your work area, and returning or cleaning the equipment used during a clinical activity.

You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals, supporting the activities of senior healthcare practitioners, doctors and nurses. This could include preparing patients for healthcare procedures and taking care of the patient before, during and after the treatment in line with their care plan. You will demonstrate a committed attitude to providing high-quality patient care, and strive to make continuous improvements to the service you provide.
