Overview
Approved for delivery on the 23/08/2018, the heritage engineering technician, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 42 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
Heritage engineering technicians are responsible for preserving, restoring, repairing and servicing historic engineering artefacts. This includes agricultural engineering, aviation, bus and coach, commercial vehicle, marine, military vehicle, motorcycle, and steam vehicles.
This apprenticeship standard allows apprentices to develop several core skills, alongside the option to specialise in one of the following six options:
- Heritage Engineering Aviation Technicians: Apprentices will work with all aircraft types and technologies both Civil and Military, including the very earliest aircraft created with wood and fabric.
- Heritage Engineering Marine Technicians: You will work to maintain, service, operate and restore traditional and historical sea-based vessels, including those propelled by sail or oar, and those powered by electric, steam, petrol or diesel.
- Heritage Engineering Steam (Mechanical Overhaul) Technicians: You will work to restore, conserve and repair features of a steam engine vehicle, including cylinders and pistons, brake systems and pipework.
- Heritage Engineering Steam (Boiler-smith) Technicians: Apprentices will focus on the preservation and restoration of heritage steam boilers and associated equipment.
- Heritage Engineering Vehicle Mechanical Technicians: You will work with a range of vehicles, providing mechanical work which could range from maintaining a historical vehicle in its unrestored condition to a complete mechanical restoration back to original build state.
- Heritage Engineering Coach-building and Trim Technicians: Working to preserve coachwork of a range of vehicles including those made of wood, metal and composites.
