Overview

Approved for delivery on the 11/04/2019, the historic environment advice assistant, Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 4, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 24 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

The role of a Historic environment advice assistant is to provide technical, research and logistical support to Historic Environment professionals working with heritage assets in the planning and development process, as well as the legal and policy frameworks for their protection. Examples of heritage assets include historic buildings, places, townscapes, monuments, archaeological sites, registered parks, gardens and battlefields.

The purpose of this apprenticeship standard is to provide apprentices with the specialist knowledge, skills and abilities to proficiently assist with a range of tasks in the protection of heritage assets. This includes an ability to research, investigate, analyse and report upon aspects of the historic environment. This work aims to inform advice and recommendations on change, protection, maintenance, conservation or restoration of the historic asset.

Apprentices will develop the skills to present arguments clearly and effectively based on their analysis confidently. You will learn how to assist with the design, implementation and compliance of programmes relating to heritage assets. Apprentices will meet the requirements to register with a professional body, such as The Institute of Historic Building Conservation at Affiliate level.
