Overview

This Higher hygiene specialist apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 4, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 10/07/2020 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

The role of a Hygiene specialist is to provide hygiene services in areas such as closed plants, sterile environments, food production and laboratories. Specialist hygiene activities include managing health and safety hazards and having an appreciation of environmental risks. This work will help to protect the health, safety and welfare of consumers, customers, clients, employees, visitors and contractors.

Apprentices will develop a strong understanding of microbiology, including how to analyse and interpret microbiological data. You will also have sound knowledge of the science of hygiene processes and chemicals and will work with external providers to identify and select the best chemicals and hygiene equipment for use within the business. A Hygiene specialist is also responsible for providing advice and support to other colleagues to ensure standards are maintained.

You will have a positive attitude, be proactive, and accept responsibility for the quality of your work. This standard will allow apprentices to develop essential leadership and management skills, and depending on your employer, you may have the opportunity to experience supervising team members in the workplace.
