Improvement Practitioner

Using improvement tools and techniques to solve problems, deliver efficient change and implement countermeasures to wasteful or dangerous procedures within a business.

Overview

The improvement practitioner was approved for delivery on 27/02/2018. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 4, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 14 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship equips you with the tools needed to understand how organisations across all sectors can value from identifying procedural problems and applying innovative solutions. You will use project managing skills to run small teams, or work as a small section of a large project, and impart knowledge on best practice to others. The course covers standard waste management and business improvement techniques such as Lean and Six Sigma, which help to identify any reoccurring problems or inefficient methods within the company.

The process you will learn throughout the course follows a direction of assessment, presentation and solution. You will learn to analyse data and use root cause analysis in compliance with a company’s regulations, alongside standard statistical measurements. You will then communicate and present this information to others with clarity and leadership and finally apply an appropriate sustainable solution.

Many industries, including automobile, engineering, IT, food and retail, can benefit from improvement practitioners. You train to be a manager of the organisation’s systems, whatever their content may be, and become an expert in their upkeep, productivity and capability.
