Improvement specialists manage the process of improvement strategy by leading a team to identify potential risks and inefficiencies with an organisation.

Overview

This Higher improvement specialist apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 5, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 08/11/2018 and typically takes 14 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

What the course covers

You will learn deep and technical expertise of complex improvement tools such as Lean and Six Sigma and change management principles to identify opportunities for improvement within the business. This apprenticeship develops your leadership and management abilities because an improvement specialist manages a team of practitioners, usually at the ratio of 1:10. You will apply your advanced knowledge and skills of improvement principles across a wide range of functions in a company while building the capability of others to do the same.

You will follow the set business goals to create a strategy for improvement which aligns with the functions and operations of the business. The apprenticeship will develop your ability to lead improvement projects, mentoring and communicating to improvement practitioners on your strategy to reduce defects or improve a system. The course covers project management from a leadership perspective to equip you with the tools to not only identify problems and apply a strategy, but to build new and appropriate systems directed by data analysis of reoccurring issues.

You will learn to be driven by statistical results to track progress and coordinate a team to implement the desired changes based on the evidence.
