Overview
This Advanced installation electrician / maintenance electrician apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 3, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 10/09/2015 and typically takes 42 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
This apprenticeship trains electricians to confidentially and safely install electrical systems to domestic, industrial and commercial environments without immediate aid or supervision. These systems include but are not limited to, switchboards, cables, fuses, lighting, heating, air-conditioning, crime and fire alarm systems and renewable energy technologies such as solar panels. As well as installation and maintenance training, this course will encourage you to contribute to the design process of electrical systems. Taking into account the specifications and the necessary materials, you will produce detailed design drawings.
The apprenticeship will provide training in engineering skills for the electricians to be able to understand the functions of cables and conductors, be able to apply inspection practices to buildings and be able to diagnose and rectify electrical faults.
Installation/maintenance electricians will learn the importance of health and safety practices on-site. You will learn to check and monitor an electrical system after it has been installed and ensure it meets the specified safe working practices. Installation electricians work on low voltage (less than 1000v) electrical and electronic devices and appliances, whereas maintenance electricians work on the maintenance of electrical installations, such as automated production systems.
