Overview

The insurance professional was approved for delivery on 19/11/2015. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 4, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 24 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship is a development pathway for those who want to advance their career in the insurance sector. Whichever area of insurance you chose to progress in with your employer, this apprenticeship will ensure you have a strong working consolidation of technical, business and industry knowledge; as well as the continued development of the skills need to put this knowledge into practice in a range of complex scenarios.

You will work with your employer to agree on an area in which to specialise. This will depend on what kind of insurance company it is and what its current needs are. However, the primary insurance areas include:

  • Broking: Providing support for technical insurance arrangements.
  • Client management: Managing a portfolio of clients and meeting their needs.
  • Underwriting: Assessing requests for insurance and providing costs and premium information.
  • Claims: Settling insurance claims for an insurance broker.
  • Operations: Working in a supporting area of insurance such as data analytics or health and safety.
  • Loss adjusting: Investigating and negotiating insurance deals by providing expert knowledge.
  • Reinsurance: Helping insurers spread their risk by providing technical support on insurance arrangement.
  • Risk management: Teaching clients how to identify and manage risk.
  • Product and pricing: Supporting the development of new products and services to meet the insurance needs of clients.
  • Complaint handling: Handling and resolving complaints from clients.
