Overview

Approved for delivery on the 27/08/2015, the investment operations technician, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship is a level above the investment operations administrator, and one level below the investment operations specialists. Like the other two positions, this role operates in financial services that engage in investment management, trading and reporting activities. It’s an operational role usually in the area of the stock exchange, stockbrokers, investment managers, banks, financial services, wealth management firms, and investment consulting businesses. The tasks at this are non-complex but must be completed with high standards of accuracy, proficiency and responsibility as a lot of investment transaction rely on the quality of this operational work.

Some tasks you may carry out at as an investment operations technician include investment transaction matching and settling, portfolio valuation, portfolio cash reconciliation. You will also prepare reports for clients and internal use, and process any changes to portfolios as instructed by clients.

You will gain a broad understanding of the financial services sector, with a knowledge of the role and purpose of investment within different markets. You will understand the regulatory framework for investment to ensure that all work complies to these standards.
