Assisting a Senior visual effects artist with their work on live-action footage and computer-generated images for television and film.

Overview

The junior 2d artist visual effects was approved for delivery on 06/04/2016. This Higher apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 4, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 18 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship is the training you need to assist a senior visual effects artist in post-production work for television and film. Visual effects (VFX) is the name for any image which has been created, enhanced, or altered for moving media. VFX are used to make shots and scenes that wouldn’t be possible, safe or realistic to film in person. They do this by combining live-action footage with computer-generated images.

As a Junior artist on this apprenticeship, you will be responsible for preparing the images and footage for the senior VFX artist to work on. This may entail masking areas of the live-action footage and isolating objects so images can be easily layered on top of each other, removing erroneous objects and producing simple composites. The apprenticeship will teach you about composition and colour, as well as industry software and operating systems.

You will need to work well within a team and have good communication skills to work on projects collaboratively.

Junior 2D artists are typically employed by a range of UK post-production companies, used for British and international Film, TV and Commercials.
