Overview

The large goods vehicle (lgv) driver was approved for delivery on 24/06/2016. This Intermediate apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 2, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 12 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

This apprenticeship is an entry-level course for goods delivery drivers; they work across all sectors, making deliveries to a range of locations such as warehouses, private homes, shops for global organisations, and private customers. Large goods vehicle drivers will drive safely with an awareness of fuel-efficient driving techniques, ensuring products are delivered at the right time, location and temperature. All deliveries must come with the correct documentation.

The apprenticeship will prepare you to follow the correct procedures to ensure the integrity of the goods and vehicle. These procedures include shipping, removing, import/export, and dealing with hazardous goods. You will communicate with a wide range of people and customers, and your aim to provide a quality service to ensure repeat business from clients. The core knowledge which apprentices will learn includes safe and controlled driving, safe use of machinery and equipment, how to protect a vehicle, planning and preparing for deliveries, and basic IT applications.

Apprentices will have to take responsibility for their safety and performance when driving and delivering the goods.
