Overview

Approved for delivery on the 31/03/2020, the lead practitioner in adult care, Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 4, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Lead practitioners in adult care guide and support a team of care workers who are responsible for the care of vulnerable adults. For this role, you have to have a high level of self-development and have demonstrated leadership qualities within your care team. Together with the care team, you will be responsible for protecting people who face social, emotional, intellectual, physical, practical or psychological challenges. You will develop specialist skills and knowledge throughout the apprenticeship to lead in areas such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, care assessment, telecare and assistive technology.

You will be trained as a coach and mentor to others to ensure a high quality of care across the whole team. All care workers under your supervision should display the following attributes: respect, compassion, courage, communication, competence and commitment. This will ensure that all care workers understand the importance of advocacy and dedication to these vulnerable adults.

Similarly, to lead adult care workers, lead practitioners may work across residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home, or a clinical healthcare setting.
