Overview
This Intermediate lean manufacturing operative apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 2, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 25/07/2019 and typically takes 12 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
There are many opportunities for career development and satisfaction in the UK’s manufacturing industry. This apprentice will train you in the role of lean manufacturing operative, which entails carrying out multiple manufacturing operations on different specifications. For example, you may be manufacturing various models of vehicles with varying specifications within one high volume environment.
Apprentices must carry out their work safely and meet all quality standards implemented by their supervisor. Throughout the course, you will develop into a multi-skilled operator given the fast-paced manufacturing environment in which this kind of processing occurs. As a lean manufacturing operative, you will prepare, control, contribute to operations and follow manufacturing processes and standard operation procedures (SOP’s). Apprentices will be responsible for maintaining health and safety at all times. For example, wearing the correct PPE, correctly using tools and equipment, safety stopping machinery, and maintaining an organised working area. To keep a clean and tidy work area, lean manufacturing operatives must follow the five S’s: sweeping, sifting, sorting, sustaining and spick and span.
Another element of the apprenticeship will be becoming familiar and comfortable with strategy improvement techniques such as Lean, to make useful contributions on how the operations could be improved. You will need problem-solving and logic skills.
