Overview
This Higher learning and skills teacher apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 5, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 29/01/2019 and typically takes 24 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.
What the course covers
This apprenticeship is the training needed to become a learning and skills teacher within the educational and training sector (ETS). You will learn to deliver practical vocational training that meets the needs of both the learners and the employer. The ETS covers all forms of education and training outside of traditional school institutions typically within a business or organisation. Such as work-based/independent training provision; offender learning; education in the voluntary sector; training on apprenticeship and traineeships; and further, adult and higher education.
Learning and skills teachers often arrive at the apprenticeship with a prior vocational specialism such as engineering or accounting, that they are qualified to teach within the ETS. This apprenticeship can be described as a dual-profession, as not only do apprentices have skills in their focused area but also the field of teaching. You will learn to plan and deliver learning that is current, relevant and challenging. By working collaboratively, you will design a curriculum which teaches the learners useful content, while also meeting the expectations of the employer or training provider.
As well as delivering teaching, learning and skills, teachers are responsible for the psychological, physical and emotional wellbeing of the learners. You will become a point of correspondence between the learners and their institution.
