Using your vocational knowledge to support employees within a new role at work.
Overview
Approved for delivery on the 29/01/2019, the learning mentor, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 12 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
As determined by your employer and professional body, apprentices will be using their sector-specific knowledge to mentor new employees in that field. Mentoring is an essential element of the Education and Training Sector (ETS), and in all staff-development contexts. Mentor apprentices will learn to guide employees as they take on a new role at work by supporting the development of knowledge, skills, and behaviours related to their programme. You will be assisting people as they begin to apply theoretical learning to a practical workplace environment. Many people find the transition from training into the workplace very difficult; the learning mentor apprenticeship trains people to directly support this transition.
This apprenticeship, like many teaching apprenticeships, is training for what might be known as a ‘dual profession’. Apprentices have up to date knowledge and skills in both their vocation and in the principles of mentoring and supporting learners. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will learn how to effectively translate your specialist knowledge into a practical guide for mentees.
As a learning mentor apprentice, you will develop critical professional behaviours including promoting an ethos of motivation and passion, operating to ethical and legal standards, valuing equality and diversity, resilience and adaptability, and demonstrating mutual respect.
