What the course covers
This apprenticeship trains you to maintain the safety and functionality of complex park rides, ranging from smaller carousels to larger hydraulic-powered rollercoasters. Public rides and attractions are becoming increasingly complicated and demand complex technical ability to produce the best customer experiences. Public rides often go far beyond simple engineering and additionally incorporate virtual and augmented reality, water, audio and pyrotechnics.
Some of the core responsibilities of a leisure and entertainment technician include maximising the benefits of technology; delivering engineering activities such as finding faults and repairing machinery; optimising customer experience and safety; conducting their work activities outdoors with independence and responsibility; and working as part of teams, including during installations and in site-based teams.
Apprentices will cover the breadth of both mechanical and electrical engineering, making it a highly skilled position. You will gain an excellent working knowledge of the leisure and entertainment industry and its requirements; as well as the skills to interpret engineering data sources such as manuals and documentation. You will be able to provide maintenance in line with both regulatory practice and customer needs.
