This apprenticeship teaches you the knowledge and skills needed for this advanced and independent role of a Libraries, Information and Archive Services (LIAS) assistant. Such industries include public, legal, commercial, health, educational, government, cultural, heritage and entertainment.

This librarian apprenticeship trains you to determine, stimulate, anticipate and satisfy the needs of users who need to access any form of information from your service. Users of LIAS are incredibly varied and can range from academics looking for archived textbooks, doctors finding a diagnosis in a medical record, or an art student using image archives for a design project.

This role has three main strands. Firstly, you will become equipped in understanding the specific needs of several types of user, including the kind of information they are looking for, whether that be analogue or digital. Secondly, you will be responsible for organising and managing information resources, such as displaying, marketing, promoting and providing access. Finally, you will deliver a range of customer services to LIAS users. These services will depend on the type of employment establishment but could include educational sessions, archiving or providing learning support.
