Overview
The lift and escalator electromechanic was approved for delivery on 29/01/2019. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 36 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
This apprenticeship provides the training and qualification to become a lift, escalator or moving walk electromechanic. You work across a range of environments such as domestic, industrial, retail and above and below ground. The primary skills you will learn as an electromechanic apprentice are installation, maintenance, repair and modernisation of lifts and escalators. These are essential skills as you are ensuring that the lifts and escalators are in line with historical and legal guidelines set by the UK codes and standards.
This is skilled work. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will gain the intricate knowledge of mechanical traction or hydraulic systems operating at a low, medium or high speed and controlled by a microprocessor or analogue control technology. Apprentice will learn how to update old lift and escalator technology by replacing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical parts to create an up-to-date system.
Other duties of an electromechanic include assembling, adjusting and aligning electrical and mechanical components, interpreting writing and layout diagrams and following safe systems of work.
