Lift Truck and Powered Access Engineering Technician

This Advanced lift truck and powered access engineering technician apprenticeship standard will provide you with a level 3, qualification. This apprenticeship standard was approved on the 10/07/2020 and typically takes 36 months to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration of the apprenticeship standard stated does not include the End-Point Assessment period.

Any business which needs to lift and move products, people and equipment safely will need lift truck and power access engineers. Apprentices in this role will work in a variety of industries including engineering, manufacturing and construction, as well the storage and logistics industries. The purpose of the role is to service repair and maintain these types of vehicles; they include manual, electric, diesel, hybrid and LPG powered machines both tracked and wheeled. This category of lift truck and powered access vehicles also includes vertical mast type machines, as well as any equipment mounted on vehicles such as forklifts and scissor lifts.

Apprentices should expect to work in a variety of locations, and you be required to work shifts, which means occasionally working nights and weekends. The different areas can include workshops, warehouses, repair centres, cold stores, manufacturing plants, engineering and construction sites, or customer premises. Engineering technicians will work alongside supervisors, warehouse staff, other colleagues and customers. Meaning, you must have good interpersonal and communication skills.

You will develop critical skills in repairing damage and diagnosing faults in vehicles, as well as meeting customer requirements and standards.
