Live Event Rigger

Installing infrastructure for live events such as lights and sound.

Overview

The live event rigger was approved for delivery on 23/12/2015. This Advanced apprenticeship standard awards you with a level 3, qualification when completed. The usual duration of this apprenticeship is 36 months, but this does not include the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

Live event riggers read and interpret technical plans of live events to correctly and safely install the appropriate infrastructure for that event. Infrastructural elements include lighting, sound, audiovisual, and scenic; there may be multiple varieties and forms of these elements in any one live event. Live events include exhibitions, sports, concerts, conferences and other related environments. Apprentices will have to work in a variety of conditions, both indoor and outdoor. They may have to work some unsociable hours. However, due to the physically demanding nature of the job, adequate rest and recovery time is essential.

Apprentices will learn how to assemble modular structural components and how to lift them into the correct place, as well as attaching additional equipment. You will need to adapt to the fast-paced and demanding role of a live event rigger to work both individually and as part of a rigging team.

You will develop a thorough underpinning knowledge of rigging systems and be able to use and inspect all rigging equipment practically. Live event riggers work under the direction of a rigging supervisor. Still, they must be able to follow methods and work from plans independently.
