Overview
Approved for delivery on the 26/09/2016, the maintenance and operations engineering technician, Advanced apprenticeship standard provides a level 3, upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 36 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
This is a complex role which involves maintaining the safety and integrity of any equipment or plant which is used or performs activities, across industries included in the national infrastructure engineering sector. This sector comprises of electricity-generating, both non-renewable and renewable; telecommunications; nuclear waste; chemical production; pharmaceuticals; animal and human food; cosmetics and petrochemicals. The equipment and plant maintained by these engineers are those which can be found within the environments, areas, and homes of these industries.
Depending on your employer and which sector of engineering you are working in, there will be technical differences in terms of composition and application of the equipment. However, the fundamental knowledge and principles of engineering work remain the same regardless of the sector. As an apprentice, you will develop the skills for installation, testing, servicing, removal, replacement, maintenance, and repair a range of equipment, sometimes as part of a planned programme of reactivate or preventative maintenance.
The logistical side of the role includes taking responsibility for your work, time, budget and safety in all engineering operations you complete. At times you may have to oversee the work of other technician and provide quality assurance on their work as well as yours.
