Overview

Approved for delivery on the 22/02/2019, the manufacturing manager (degree), Degree apprenticeship standard provides a level 6, integrated degree upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 42 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.

What the course covers

A manufacturing manager ensures that performance output of manufacturing processes meets customer expectation and is cost effective. They do this by planning manufacturing schedules, monitoring operations and checking products for quality assurance. This role can be found across many sectors including consumer goods, food and drink, pharmaceuticals, aeronauticals, chemicals and automotive. As an apprentice you may be employed by a company of any size; you may be overseeing an entire plant for a national company, or in charge of a smaller specific area of production, but whatever the environment the work will be fast-paced.

As a manufacturing manager you will spend time on the production site and in an office. You may be expected to work shift over a 24-hour period and be on call for emergencies when you are out of office. Within your day to day schedule, you will work with manufacturing personnel and managers from other departments such as commercial, marketing, research, design, or human resources.

You will develop key skills as a manufacturing manager such as post-production analysis and quality checks, providing timely and clear reports to managers, and monitoring other workers to ensure they are working safely and to the highest standard.
