Overview
Approved for delivery on the 22/03/2019, the materials process engineer (degree), Higher apprenticeship standard provides a level 7, non-integrated degree upon completion. This apprenticeship will typically take 24 months to complete, not including the End-Point Assessment Period.
What the course covers
A materials process engineer is a complex role related to fields including Casting, Forging, Machining, Coating, Heat treatment and Surface Finishing processes. These specialist areas are found in industries where materials and their functions are essential to the technology they use, such as Medical, Gas, Oil and Defence. This role is unique to the materials industry and relates to the controlling and managing of the complex manufacturing processes and support services that are applied to materials. As an apprentice, you will train in problem-solving and gathering information to build a bigger picture of the fault or problem. This will enable you to find an appropriate solution which can be integrated into a product’s process. Depending on your employer, apprentices will typically work within one of two areas: problem definition, or solutions provider.
In this role, you will provide essential guidance and leadership to your associated businesses on how to improve company measurements such as quality, delivery and new product introduction. You are expected to support critical financial and business decisions related to materials engineering.
You will have regular interactions with all departments within your company, but will predominantly work with the Engineering and Operations teams.
